- You must be 18+ to attend a SigMa event. You do need to be a SigMa member to attend a SigMa event.

- SigMa is an all-volunteer organization and operates as a 501(c)(3) non-profit with the mission of education, socialization, networking, and providing a safe/sane clean environment to explore and practice BDSM, kinks, and fetishes.
- SigMa relies on donations, memberships, event admission, and fundraisers to operate.
- SigMa does not currently have a physical space. We are working to re-open with our own space again in 2024.

History
Guys interested in BDSM and kink started playing together at a house on Second Street in Alexandria in 1983. They came together in 1984 and formed SigMa – being able to finally incorporate SigMa in 1987 within the District of Columbia.
In the days before the internet and alike, information about SigMa was passed by word of mouth as well as ads in the Blade and the Leather Journal. SigMa Dungeon/Play Parties were on Saturdays and you had to call a number and leave your name and number for a call back to find out where and how to attend.
Initially, SigMa did not have its own space and met in several location in DC (above a barber shop, on the second floor of 14th Street, and in a space on Church Street) before finally renting the small house at 1320 8th Street, NW. It did not have a home for a year until it found the space on the second floor above Rita’s at 1013 H Street, NE. In 2015 SigMa moved to 1636 R Street, NW where it was until Covid forced it to close.
While it held Dungeon/Play Parties in its space, SigMa provided educational outreaches (S/M 101s) at several locations, including the DC Eagle, as well as in its own space. Additionally, there were several ‘Perverted Picnics’ over a weekend (in Maryland and then later in West Virginia) that members enjoyed.
Until it has the funds to find and rent a new space, SigMa is carrying on by providing an Education Series at the Green Lantern on the first Saturday of the month.
